Finished Senufo

'Senufo' was the first typeface that I completed for the African inspired 'Dunny' Collection. I took the original illustration that Meryem created for the 'Dunny' and used the colours she outlined. I think the combination is fantastic, and the yellow against the green really stands out. With the use of a very dark grey, almost black, as a highlight the designs work really well. I took a component of the Dunny illustration and incorporated into my design, and tried to make it the combination as fluid as possible. I think the fact that the illustration was geometric based really helped combine it with the straight, strict lines of my pre-made typeface. I made the typeface 3D to make it stand out even more, and give it more depth so it doesn't appear so flat on the page. I considered adding texture to the designs, but thought this was a step slightly too far. If printed on an interesting stock choice, the texture will be added at this stage. With a digital one as well it may be too much. I struggled applying a formula for the typeface across some of the letters, especially 'A' and 'V', but I think I overcome the obstacles and feel the typeface blends from one letter to the next nicely. I think when it is used to actually display words it will work really well.

Below is a flip book detailing each individual letter.
